Doprial mu mať svoju rodinu, tenis, skvelú prácu, cestovanie, autorstvo knihy a toto všetko s invalidným vozíkom „na krku.“

femme: Pamätáš si na svoje detstvo? Čím si chcel byť?

Tomáš Masaryk: Detstvo si pamätám veľmi dobre. Bol som živé a hravé dieťa a miloval som pohyb a šport. Chcel som byť profesionálny futbalista. To bol môj sen. Aj sa mi splnil, no len na dobu určitú. Spomínam si, ako mi mamina vždy hovorila, že najprv som utekal a až potom plakal.

S futbalom som vstával a aj chodil spať. Hral som futbal u nás v Holíči a už počas strednej školy som začal hrať za Spartak Trnava prvú dorasteneckú ligu. Po maturite bola moja voľba jasná. Chcel som vyštudovať za trénera futbalu. Toho času brali na FTVŠ v Bratislave z 500 prihlásených iba 50 študentov, ja som bol 37. Popri škole som hrával v Inter Bratislava prvú dorasteneckú ligu. O moju budúcnosť sa už vtedy zaujímali futbaloví manažéri.

Prepracoval som sa do seniorského „A“ tímu, kde som hral najvyššiu Slovenskú súťaž. Posledný polrok pred mojim životným zlomom som hosťoval v Senici a zároveň si dokončoval školu. Futbal bol môj život! Začali mi prichádzať rôzne ponuky zo zahraničia, jedna konkrétna, ktorá ma oslovila najviac, bol trojročný kontrakt do Lille  - v tom období hrali 2. francúzsku ligu.

Dva týždne po promóciách sa môj starý, prvý život skončil a s ním aj moja profesionálna futbalová dráha.

femme: V sekunde sa vie život úplne zmeniť a Ty si to zažil.  Pamätáš si ten osudný deň? Kam si šiel, čo si mal oblečené?

Tomáš Masaryk: Pamätám si iba ráno, keď som išiel z domu. Ešte mama mi vravela ako vždy, keď som niekam šiel aby som si dával na seba pozor. Ja som odpovedal jasné.

Ráno, cestou na futbalový tréning som začal predbiehať auto. Nebol som pripútaný, dostal som defekt na ľavom zadnom kolese. Chcel som sa rýchlo zaradiť späť, no narazil som do auta, ktoré som obiehal. Nič viac si nepamätám. Z rozprávania svedkov viem, že moje auto vyletelo z cesty, asi šesť krát sa vo vzduchu otočilo a mňa vystrelilo bočným oknom von z auta. Auto ostalo s natočeným volantom do pravého uhla, vraj som bojoval do poslednej chvíle.

Našli ma 40 metrov od miesta nehody, v kaluži krvi. Utrpel som veľmi silný opuch mozgu, telo som mal pokryté modrinami a otvorenými ranami. Nehoda mi vážne poranila pravú ruku, pľúca ostali zablokované a úlomky rozdrveného šiesteho stavca sa mi zapichli do miechy.

femme: Aké šance Ti dávali lekári?

Tomáš Masaryk: Previezli ma do Bratislavy, kde ma operovali štyri a pol hodiny. Počas bdelej kómy som prekonal klinickú smrť. Rodičov lekári pripravovali na najhoršie. Mal som ostať pripútaný na lôžko a do konca života neschopný plnohodnotne rozmýšľať ani rozprávať. Pri prevoze z jednej nemocnice do druhej moje pľúca pracovali na 20%. Zaviedli mi pľúcny ventilátor a čakali, či prežijem do rána.

femme: Aj boli momenty či myšlienky, kedy si preklínal ten osudný deň? Pýtal si sa sám seba, že prečo práve Ty? Prečo nie ten za Tebou?

Tomáš Masaryk: Jasné, že otázky a myšlienky boli. Keď som sa prebral, morfium mi tieklo do žíl. Prečo? Aby som vôbec zniesol takú bolesť. A bolo mi povedané, že ak by som celý život nešportoval, bolo by po mne. Tak som sa smial, že dvadsať dva rokov som športoval ako utrhnutý z reťaze len preto, aby som prežil let z auta. Miliónkrát som pýtal, prečo som prežil a otvoril oči. A milión prvý raz som si odpovedal, pretože tu mám ešte poslanie. A v momente, ako som si uvedomil odpoveď, začal som s akýmisi nádejami, že bude lepšie. Zistil som, že mám na výber len dve možnosti. Buď sa tomu poddám a budem sa sám seba celý život pýtať, prečo sa to stalo práve mne, alebo budem žiť a v tom prípade musím zabojovať. V takejto situácii mať vieru, nádej a rodičov najviac. Mal som jedno obrovské šťastie. Podporu rodičov! Keby niet ich, tak tu teraz nesedím.

Chcel som ja, chceli aj rodičia, a tak sme sa navzájom podporovali. Toto považujem za kľúčový moment, vďaka ktorému som sa z toho dostal. Neskutočne mi pomohli a ja na to nikdy nezabudnem.

Ak by som neotvoril oči, nebol by som ani prvý ani posledný. Vôbec by som sa netrápil, no bola by to rana pre tých najbližších. V novembri by zapálili sviečky, uronili niekoľko sĺz a život by šiel ďalej. No robím si žarty, že na tej druhej strane mi bolo zima, tak som sa vrátil.

femme: Ako dlho trvalo, kým si sa vrátil „späť“ do života?

Tomáš Masaryk: Bol som v národnom rehabilitačnom centre Kováčová pol roka. Sú tam skvelí ľudia. Vedia pomôcť, keď sa v živote stane tragická havária a následne príde trauma. Vtedy človek nemá vôbec žiadne skúsenosti, nevie ako žiť a ako sa o seba postarať. Uviedli ma nazad do života, za čo im veľmi ďakujem. Im a MOJIM RODIČOM. Dva roky som bol prakticky len doma, kým som sa naučil ísť na vozíku von medzi ľudí. Mal som pocit, že na mňa pozerajú aj kvetináče spoza rohu.

Po 4 rokoch každodenného boja, aj vďaka podpore blízkych, som opäť v sebe našiel cestu k športu. Premýšľal som nad náhradou za futbal, a aj vo svojej situácii som hľadal dynamický šport, pri ktorom som mohol uplatniť svoju súťaživosť.

Hľadal som fyzickú námahu a psychickú úľavu. Vtedy som sa stretol s ľuďmi zo Slovenského paralympijského výboru a Slovenského zväzu telesne postihnutých športovcov a hľadali sme šport, ktorý by bol pre mňa vhodný. Vybrali sme tenis. Moja pravá ruka mala pre následky nehody veľké pohybové obmedzenia. Učil som sa držať raketu, prehodiť loptičku cez sieť, vrátiť úder.

,,Lietať“ po kurte je fyzicky náročné, ale bol som odhodlaný nevzdať to. Výzva bola prijatá, za 16 rokov je 190 pohárov doma.

femme: Vďaka svojej práci si precestoval veľa krajín, kde sa ti páčilo najviac a kde najmenej? 

Tomáš Masaryk: Pracujem už dvanásť rokov  pre jednu nemenovanú luxemburskú firmu. Ide o medzinárodný obchod s komoditami,  oceliarsky priemysel. Áno, precestoval som toho dosť. Bol som v Argentíne, Brazílii, v Južnej Kórei, v južnej Afrike či v Indii.

V Šanghaji sú veľmi milí ľudia no doma je doma. A India? Tam vidíte ten rozdiel. Extra chudoba a extra bohatý. My sme boli u tých zámožnejších, ale také zmiešané pocity som nemal ešte nikdy.
